Glynallyn Mansion, The Renovated Interiors (Part 2)

Today we wrap up our coverage of the amazing and regal American castle, Glynallyn, located in Morristown, NJ. Glynallyn is the featured designer showcase home of the Woman's Association of Morristown Medical Center. It is open during the month of May and it is a MUST SEE for anyone in the area.

A big thank you to the volunteers who have made this showhouse come together as well as all of the creative and outstanding designers and architects who created such fun, whimsical, beautiful and interesting designs. This group of 50+ creatives remade what was an abandoned piece of history into a magnificent specimen of American architecture (PS- it’s for sale too!).

And for our final rooms that stood out from the rest-

Lady Allen’s Bower by Creative Wallcoverings & Interiors, Ltd.
This small office room is placed strategically between the dining room and the kitchen and is intended to be the lady of the house’s personal study and office. The room’s varying shades of mocha brown accented with lemon yellow and the architectural details and warmth of the upholstered walls add a modern day elegance. The ceiling is a delight as it is covered with Phillip Jeffries grass cloth in a metallic hue.

This historic home located in Morristown, NJ, is a 32,000 square foot castle, complete with 19 fireplaces, 66 rooms and 7.5 acres of terraced gardens.

Today we are excited to explore the forty-one interior rooms of this castle that have been renovated by local decorators and architects.

Glynallyn Mansion, The Renovated Gardens

It’s May and what has been lauded as one of the finest examples of English Tudor architecture in America has been restored to its former glory in Morristown, NJ. Glynallyn, the sixteenth mansion to be restored as part of the Mansion in May fundraiser hosted by Woman's Association of Morristown Medical Center, is a 32,000 square foot castle, complete with 19 fireplaces, 66 rooms and 7.5 acres of terraced gardens.

Forty-one of the indoor rooms have been renovated by local, prominent interior designers and seventeen landscape architects have refurbished the exterior gardens in order to share this beautiful piece of American history with the public. We had a peek of the castle before the designers got their hands on it back in February and have been eagerly awaiting the big reveal.

Upon the arrival at Glynallyn, you enter through a tree-lined drive to the front of the home. Either side of the house as well as the rear of the house are flanked by 7.5 acres of terraced gardens. Each space has been carefully curated to create a sense of tranquil peace around what has been a sleepy giant.

Glynallyn Mansion, a Historic Renovation

About a month ago, our good friend and brilliant landscape designer, Susan Cohan, contacted us to see if we were interested in tagging along with her to see her newest project. She told us she had been selected as one of the 45 designers responsible for overhauling a local historic mansion, all in the name of charity. Intrigued was an understatement.

The mansion, Glynallyn, is located in Morristown, NJ, on what was once known as Millionaires Row during “Guilded Age” (1890-1929). Glynallyn was built by George Marshall Allen in 1913 and completed in 1917. It was based on the design of the 1481 manor home Compton Wynates  in Warwickshire, England and designed by Charles Berg, a noted New York architect of the day, after Mr. Allen requested Mr. Berg spend some time in England studying Compton Wynates and other tudor buildings. It's truly a magnificant sight.
