Inspiration is everywhere for a creative professional and interior decorators can find inspiration in museums, on the street, while traveling and in print among other places. As we continue to further our decor knowledge and plod through the academic book, Interior Design and Decoration by Sherrill Whiton, we reached out to our fellow designers and friends to recommend a book with a bit more vitality and spark to it. In our third installment, here is what designers are reading:
Raina Kattleson- A Stylists' Life
BOOK: Nomad by Sibella Court
Part travel journal, part style guide. Top interiors stylist, designer and shop owner Sibella Court shares her journey's to Italy, India, Syria, Japan and Mexico, bringing back artifacts and inspiration. If perusing this book doesn't make you want to hop on a plane nothing will.
Eric Miller- Interiors by Studio M
BOOK: Rework by Jason Fried David and Heinemeier Hansson
This is not a design book but it is great for anyone who is running a small business! Some serious good stuff... serious.
Michelle Weibe- Interiors by Studio M
BOOK: Be Your Own Decorator by Susanna Salk
I would recommend Be Your Own Decorator because it is a beautiful design book, full of exquisite photos giving inspiration and information from top designers from around the world. Its purpose is to give readers a “why not?” instead of “how to”.
Traci Zeller- Traci Zeller Designs
BOOK: The Joy of Decorating: Southern Style with Mrs. Howard by Phoebe Howard
I love Phoebe's work and to hear her describe each room is absolutely mesmerizing. The book is, of course, full of inspiring images but also includes practical tips that are relevant to any home. Phoebe herself is lovely, charming and gracious, and her book captures that same spirit. I don't always read every word of a design book, but I did this one!
Thank you so much everyone for sharing your current reads with us. We are inspired to pick them all up and look forward to discussing them the next time we see you!
