DDB 2012 Fall Market Finds & Inspiration

Two weeks ago we were swimming in a sea of design at the 2012 Decoration and Design Building's 2012 Fall Market. As part of a select group of design bloggers sent to cover the market, we were treated to front-row seating at the four major keynotes as well as a home base in two fantastic showrooms: Niedermaier and Pierre Frey. (Be sure to check out ELLE Decor’s editor-in-chief’s keynote {here} if you haven’t as it was one of the best we’ve heard in a while.) Here are our highlights from the informative and inspirational day.

Niedermaier: Bloggers’ Lounge Host
Neither of us had been into the Niedermaier showroom but boy were we pleasantly surprised by what we found. From chic and clean seating to beautiful lighting, we couldn’t stop gaping! Plus many of the pieces are customizable with pops of color, this manufacturers of distinctive modern furniture, lighting and accessories should be on your shopping list!

We were able to find more than a few little treasures from Niedermaier, one of our two Bloggers' Lounge hosts (and that's NOT even including the pepper jelly!). Aside from the gorgeous pieces shown above, we also drooled over the Gustav floor lamp by Collura.

Pierre Frey: Bloggers’ Lounge Host
If you don’t know it by now, we are HUGE fabric connoisseurs. As we have been treated to a tour of the French fabric house Pierre Frey on a prior visit to the D&D Building, we were excited to learn more about this 77 year old fabric and furnishings house. The design house has not only the traditional Pierre Frey fabric and wallpaper lines but also three other prestigious brands: Braquenié, Fadini Borghi and Boussac. It has also partnered together with several furniture manufacturers to create equally stunning home accessories and furniture collections.

We were lucky enough to have not one, but TWO lovely lounges in which to rest our feet, including this one from Pierre Frey. A quick turn around the showroom was a must to take in all the amazing fabrics and wallcoverings.

Schumacher: Fashion’s Influence on Wallcovering Design- moderated by Kendell Constrom, Editor-in-Chief of NYC&G with Celerie Kemble of Kemble Interiors and Susan North of Schumacher
We joined a packed house to listen to Celerie Kemble launch her debut wallcovering collection, exclusively for Schumacher. “The line combines classic looks with very modern details and geometric patterning, using unexpected metallic finishes, exotic touches such as ikats and embroidery, as well as glamorous moire, silk and velvet all in a rich and sophisticated color palette of saturated hues and subtle neutrals.” One of Celerie’s tips we loved was “printing on sisal/grasscloth creates softness and makes wallcovering perfectly imperfect.”

Baroncelli: Billie Magazine Launch
Interior stylist Lili Diallo previewed the new magazine Billie, a online home design and interiors magazine, in the gorgeous lighting showroom Baroncelli. Lili offered tips on how Venetian glass can work in all interiors in unexpected ways. We were so inspired with Lili’s tips (and her fantastic pedigree: former Domino Magazine stylist) we will be bringing you a full post this exciting new magazine set to launch by the end of October!

Baroncelli was the perfect stage for the launch of Lili Diallo's online magazine, billie. Though we must admit that it was tough to choose whether to focus on the amazing lighting (such as the Clara, Adriano and Bramantes shown here, left to right) or the exciting and inspiring new publication!

John Roselli & Assoc: Beeline Home by Bunny Williams
You say the name Bunny Williams and we make it a point to be there! Again, it’s a fabric thing and then couple it with Bunny’s impeccable taste: winner! John Roselli’s showroom has become renowned for its savvy collection of furniture, lighting, upholstery, fabric, and wallcovering, and was recently honored by House & Garden Magazine for the second year in a row as one of the Top Ten showrooms in the U.S. It was a perfect venue to show off the beautifully made, beautifully finished, and reasonably priced Beeline Home. Many items in the Beeline collection are inspired by Bunny’s own possessions and the kicker... most of the items are largely in stock, aka no lead times!

We were able to actually sit in and among the Beeline Home collection to hear the line's creator and legendary designer, Bunny Williams, share with us her inspiration and objectives for the line. By the way, the ottoman is as ingenious as it is stylish: tucked inside the inset mahogany tray is a fabulous faux shagreen interior, perfect for storing the latest design publications or tea service for two. Swoon!

A quick turn around Gracie never fails to disappoint. Three steps in we spied this gorgeous red lacquered coffee table.

It was a whirlwind of a day filled with great people and beautiful things in an inspirational setting. We love taking part in the D&D Building’s seasonal markets and can’t wait to see what’s in store next!
