January = A Clean Slate
Sunday, January 2, 2011 When I think of January my heart does a pitter-patter. After a fall and winter that has been chocked full of holidays, festivals, and celebrations, I yearn for some down time to spend at home. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE December (in fact it is my favorite month of the year). But yet, once December has come and gone, I hate it for all of the clutter it brings into my life. January is quite, white, new and slow. It has no obligations where you ignore your true priorities. January is clean.
Unlike so many other people I know, I choose not to make resolutions. I never keep those. What I do choose to do instead is to think about my word for the year. I have been thrilled to find some other great bloggers (Ali Edwards) do the same thing. I search for a word that speaks to me in many ways (music, literature, daily life, and conversation). My word of the year is clean.
This year, I want to feel clean, see clean, eat clean, and be clean. I want clean to be part of every decision I make. Less clutter=happy me. So it’s time to look for inspiration in the simple, stark, minimalism that is clean. There is so much beauty in the simple things and the important things; I can’t imagine anything more fulfilling than scrubbing away the unnecessary to see them more clearly and love them more dearly.
Below are some beautiful photographs that have inspired my quest for cleanliness.

Wow--I can't decide if that clean white bed is inspiring or terrifying ;) I don't remember when the last time that I took a chance on buying anything white was...there are definitely days that I'd love someone to sweep into my cluttered, crowded, colorful New York City apartment and whitewash it all ;)
Oooh I love all those pictures of all those "clean" things. That must give a very happy feeling.
Good luck with your word.
Thanks, Jessica! I feel the same way. My house is so full of color and I think it just makes it look messier (or maybe it's just the toys!). So I am inspired to clean and create a blank canvas for all of the colorful "accessories" that fill my rooms.
Very interesting word choice. Wishing you all the best as you embark upon your 'clean' year : )
